Burgundy, oxblood, rust, terracotta and cherry…red is having a moment! A colour associated with confidence, passion and warmth - red certainly packs a punch in an interior, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be garish. As with most colour schemes, there are a few things to consider before taking the plunge. Consider the room, the lighting, the architectural details and mostly how you want the space to feel. Do you want the room to feel like a warm hug or bright and lively? Choosing the right shade of red (and the colours you pair with it) can dramatically change the feeling of a room. At Studio Arterior, our love of red shows no sign of waning, so we thought we’d share some beautiful examples we’ve seen, with some tips for incorporating the fiery hue into your interior.

Tip #1 - Go bold with a red sofa!
This rust velvet sofa from Soho Home looks so warm and inviting, yet pairing it with textured boucle and a sculptural marble table, keeps the look contemporary and cool. Rust is a wonderfully muted shade of red that makes a statement without shouting “I’m a red sofa”.

Tip #2 - Pair with earthy neutrals
This deep wine-coloured headboard set against the light grey-green paneled wall and small accents of brass oozes understated elegance. Sticking to a deeper shade of red works well in a bedroom, and is an excellent alternative to navy blue.

Tip #3 - Clash with pink!
Possibly our favourite colour combination… red and pink. Despite sitting next to each other on the colour wheel, each colour evokes a very different feeling. The deep burgundy shade grounds the coral pink in this bedroom, whilst the pink feels feminine and fresh. We love it.

Tip #4 - Add a pop of red
Placing two pillar-box red cushions against the aqua-blue bed really makes this interior pop. Balanced with teak bedside tables, a mustard throw and antique striped armchair - this bedroom is a perfect example of how to use red as an accent colour.
Be daring
We hope these red interiors have inspired you to be daring and bring the colour into your home. Still feeling baffled on where to start? Get in touch and one of our designers can help you put together a scheme.
